Result U18s: Kilcullen....4 Naas....1

Goals: Ross x 2, Bryon and an o.g.

MOM: Ross

This game promised to be entertaing and didnt disappoint those who braved the miserable weather, kick off was 2 o clock and after a second idle saturday last week our men were chomping at the bit to get going today,
The early exchanges were evenly matched with both teams taking extra care as conditions under foot were less than perfect, and with 10mins on the clock there was a nasty clash of heads in which the naas player came away with a nasty cut over his eye, nobody wants to see a player getting hurt and we at kilcullen hope its nothing serious and wish him speedy recovery, there was a long break in play to allow treatment for the lad and when play resumed kilcullen were caught cold, naas took a quick kick out, moved the ball quickly up the pitch and buried the ball in the back of the net before we could react, we fell asleep and paid the price 1-0 Naas.
The away team gave us something to think about by scoring the 1st goal and it was all about the reaction from Kilcullen, straight from the tip off, as if the goal woke a sleeping giant, we looked to get even and it didnt take long, Murty Sully playin in the 10 won a free kick over to right side of the avondale end and an expertly floated free kick from Dougie found Ross in the six yard area took the ball on his chest, swivelled and buried the ball in the net to even the score, 1-1, we got straight back into our positions to go again and hunted the ball down from the naas kick off, pressing high up the pitch it was rossy again who dispossessed their RB bust down the line cut back in on his right foot and sent a curling effort goal bound, it was a naas defender that got the last touch but couldnt keep the ball out of his own net, 2-1 Kilcullen and deservedly so. Not satisfied and with naas on the ropes we kept a high tempo and looked to increase our lead, again on the right side of the avondale end good passing exchanges between riedy murty and sean corrigan created a crossing opportunity for CB robbie lee, he swung in a sweet ball and rossy was in the right position again to nod past the onrushing keeper for his second of the game and to put us 3-1 up. Thats how it stayed after 45 played and we brought it in @ HT feeling confident we had the talent and ability for a repeat perfomance in the 2nd.
Naas started bright and looked to get the goal that would give them some hope of salvaging something from the game but credit to our back four gaynor, robbie, sean fitz and mick pofong and not forgetting goalkeeper Didier Cordonier we snuffed out every attack and the away team never looked like scoring. Have to give a mention to big didier betwen the sticks with excellent distribution throughout the game and his kicking was the lenght of the pitch in 2nd half with the wind at his back. One such kick out almost beat his opposition number down the far end, our net minder launched the ball forward and found the naas keeper off his line, the ball bounced over him and looked destined to make it four only to be denied by the post, not something you see every day unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet, it was indeed reidy from centre midfeild who added the fourth and again i think ross can claim the assist on this one with a lovely through ball that gave reidy an age to pick his spot, slotted cooly into the net to put the game beyond any doubt, 4-1.
A solid performace for our first home game and great to see so much support for this group of lads who give 100% every week for each other, we dont get over excited with victories this early in the season, all focus goes to the athy match away next week and hopefully another good performance and another 3 pts.
